About Danielle
Danielle Ranney has spent most of her life in the Midwest. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After a four-year escape to San Antonio, Texas, for college at Trinity University, she returned to the region for a Master’s program in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She currently works at Fortive Corporation in Everett.
While growing up, she enjoyed boating with family and playing softball competitively. She started running her senior year of high school and still enjoys it today. Since moving to Seattle (and meeting Wyeth), she has attempted cycling, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, rock climbing and triathlons.
Danielle’s parents are Tim and Marcia Ranney, and her sister is Alyssa Ranney.

Alyssa Ranney
Alyssa was Danielle’s first friend, and she happens to also be her sister! They moved to Seattle together at the end of 2009 and both credit their current closeness to having been roommates for a few years as adults.
Lindsay Spangler
Lindsay is one of the main reasons Danielle enjoyed trail running so much during grad school. She has even made it out to the Pacific Northwest for rainy runs and an Olympic-distance triathlon.
Theresa Kissane Johnston
Is also trail-running friend from Illinois and is always up for attempting a race distance much farther than she is trained to complete. Theresa is kind enough to share her wedding anniversary date of October 14 with Danielle and Wyeth.
Carol Baym
This friendship began over brains… literally. Danielle and Carol bonded while dissecting brains in a neuroanatomy class and regularly getting Chipotle afterward. Carol has continued her graduate school journey in physical therapy.
Ruth Harbaugh
Danielle and Ruth once shared a vanpool to work, which quickly expanded to happy hours and lunch runs. From stand-up paddle board yoga to Expedia deals to Cabo, this friendship is always an adventure.
Lindy Kyzer
Lindy and Danielle met in high school and were equally excited to move away from Iowa for college. That didn’t stop them from appreciating everything Iowa had to offer, including haunted houses, corn mazes and four-wheeling.
Elizabeth Roots
One of Danielle’s first friends in Seattle, Elizabeth started out as a coworker who became a marathon training partner. The two have done several races together, and as a result, they often wear the same race shirts accidentally.
Jen McGinnity
Danielle and Jen met through work, but they became close over countless runs after work. Jen has a strange ability to predict Danielle’s future by living it a couple of years in advance.
